Getting To Know You
The more we know about you, the better we can understand your unique financial needs and provide you with financial solutions that fit your needs. For example, if we knew you were a homeowner in need of financing, we would recommend that you consider a home equity loan or credit line as an alternative to an installment loan because of its potential tax benefits for you.
We also look at trends in customer information to help us to design products and services that meet the needs of our customers or to improve existing ones that better meet your financial needs.
We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms (your name, address, social security number, etc).
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others (your account balance, payment history, etc).
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency (your creditworthiness or credit history).
Non-public personal information is information we collect in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. It does not include information available from public sources, such as telephone directories or government records.
There are some cases in which we gather information to comply with laws and regulations governing the financial industry. For example, we are required by federal regulations to obtain a tax identification number (generally a social security number) for many of our accounts, including all savings, checking, or investment accounts that pay interest.
We use some of the data we collect to maintain the security of your account(s) and to protect the privacy of your financial information. We must be able to positively identify you and your products and services to prevent access by unauthorized individuals. We restrict access to your personal and account information to those employees who need to know your information to provide service to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your non-public personal information.
It Has To Be Right!
We are committed to maintaining complete and accurate information about our customers, and we employ reasonable measures to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness of this information. If you think any information we have about you or your account(s) may be incorrect, please notify us immediately. We will take prompt action to make the appropriate corrections and to notify anyone with whom we may have shared inaccurate information.
It Has To Be Right!
We do not disclose any non-public personal information about customers or former customers to anyone, except as permitted by law. For example, we are permitted to share your financial information with parties named in a lawsuit or administrative action when we are served with a subpoena or court order and with federal or state regulatory authorities, such as banking examiners or the Internal Revenue Service, as authorized by federal and state law. Consistent with the practice of other financial institutions, we share information about you and your account(s) with us with reputable credit reporting agencies as authorized under federal law and with others who may receive certain information from us under particular circumstances, but only as lawfully permitted or required.
We may disclose any information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
Our Employees Understand Privacy
An important part of our employee orientation program is the emphasis we place on customer confidentiality. All of our employees are aware of their responsibility with respect to customer information. Only employees who need customer information to perform their duties are authorized to access customer information.

Internet Banking Security Statement
With Peoples National Bank Internet Banking, we use a full range of Internet security measures, including cryptography, routers and firewalls, and a trusted operating system to complete our overall security architecture.
Cryptography: Security on the Internet begins with your browser. In order to utilize Internet Banking, you must use a browser that supports the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. SSL allows you to securely send and receive encrypted data over the Internet. This protocol provides a secure channel for data transmission through its public/private key encryption capabilities. When a client connects to the Internet Banking Vault Server, the session immediately goes through a "handshaking" process where the server sends a certified Digital ID to the client, whereupon an "encrypted tunnel" is created between the client and the server. This simply means that all requests by the client and, subsequently, all replies by the server are encrypted using an extremely long and complicated key. We support the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers as well as older versions that still enjoy a significant market share of at least 4% or greater. We will recommend a browser upgrade to customers requesting support who are using older browser versions no longer prevalent in the market - just as Microsoft, for example, no longer offers support for outdated versions of Internet Explorer. In addition to 128-bit encryption, your browser must also have Javascript support enabled in order to view pages correctly.
Routers and Firewalls: Your account information is protected by a series of filtering routers and firewalls that act as a barrier between the outside world and the internal bank network. The filtering router is the first component that you pass through to gain access to your account information. Much like a security guard, the router is responsible for determining who has access to what components of Internet Banking. This is achieved with Access Control Lists (ACLs) which allow or deny specific services for a particular user. The firewall is the next security component that you pass through. The firewall provides a higher level of security and authentication of a client request. The firewall takes advantage of the same type of ACLs that a router utilizes and tracks each request that was made, who made it, when it was made, where it was made from, and where it was destined for. Each one of these items is used to determine whether the user is granted access to the requested destination and protects the internal bank network from outside access.
Trusted Operating System: The entire Internet Banking application resides within a trusted operating system. The trusted operating system acts much like a firewall by protecting sensitive and proprietary information from the outside world. The trusted operating system accepts your authorized requests for account information, retrieves the information from our database, and sends the information back to your browser in an encrypted format. The system also contains numerous audit controls to track requests and navigation. This audit control allows us to quickly identify any suspicious activity.
Your Responsibility: When your Internet Banking account is established, we will provide you with a username and password to access your accounts through the Internet. The first time you attempt to access your accounts, you will be prompted to change your password. It is important that you memorize your password and not convey it to anyone else. You must make sure that no one is watching you enter your password and that you properly exit your Internet Banking session/browser before leaving the computer. The Internet Banking system allows you to change your password anytime and you should change your password frequently.
